College basketball has a rhythm that continues beyond the last tournament game. Our June 18 post connected postseason competition, roster decisions, recruiting and the work that leads into a new season.

The College Basketball Calendar: Preparation, Recruiting and March

Competition and preparation

Programs move from the end of the season into roster planning and development, then into fall preparation, nonconference games, conference play and the postseason. Specific practice and recruiting rules depend on the division and calendar.

For 2027, the Division I men's Final Four is scheduled for April 3 and 5 in Detroit. The women's Final Four is April 2 and 4 in Columbus, Ohio.

A calendar needs current rules

Recruiting periods and transfer windows are not interchangeable with the general offseason. Families should use the calendar for the athlete's sport and division and ask a school's compliance staff about a specific situation.

Prepare information before a conversation

Have updated film, accurate academics, a clear player profile and a thoughtful program list ready. Good organization gives an athlete more time to focus on school and development while handling recruiting tasks.
