Shawnee 2026–27 Basketball: The WBL Champion Faces Its Next Test
2026–27 Ohio boys basketball outlook • WBL • Research checked October 21, 2026.
The verified starting point
2025–26: 19–6 overall, 9–0 WBL.
Beckett and Trevick Bertke shared the league's player-of-the-year award.
Mark Triplett was named WBL coach of the year.
An unbeaten league record is the starting standard
Shawnee enters the next WBL season as the program everyone can measure against. Nine league games produced nine victories. That is a stronger statement than finishing first through a tiebreaker, and it gives the new team a demanding recent example.
The 19–6 overall record is a separate piece of the story. Conference success did not mean every opponent was solved, and a new roster must build its own answers. An October preview can recognize the championship without assuming that the same hierarchy carries forward unchanged.
The Bertke distinction matters
Beckett and Trevick Bertke shared the WBL's top individual award, but their class standings were different. The official All-Ohio release lists Beckett as a senior averaging 20.7 points and Trevick as a junior averaging 18.8. Beckett earned first-team Division III recognition; Trevick was a third-team selection.
That distinction prevents a misleading claim that the complete award-winning partnership simply returns. Trevick is a significant name to monitor through the current roster process. The previous team's scoring balance, however, cannot be reconstructed by adding one player's production to an assumed replacement.

The support around the headline will decide the texture
Luke Marshall earned third-team All-WBL recognition and Ashton Wright received honorable mention. Their presence in the awards list is useful evidence that the champion's story extended beyond the two co-players of the year.
Watch who initiates possessions, who becomes available when the first scorer is crowded and who completes defensive rebounds. Those roles are more informative than a preseason declaration of a new star. With Van Wert and Bath close behind in the previous table, Shawnee's ability to develop reliable answers across the group will shape its title defense.
