2026–27 Ohio boys basketball outlook • MAC • Research checked October 21, 2026.

The verified starting point

2025–26 regular season: 7–15 overall, 0–9 MAC.

Regular-season averages: 41.77 points scored, 50.00 allowed.

Parker Jones earned second-team All-MAC; Connor Hoge received honorable mention.

A winless league season still contains useful evidence

New Knoxville's 0–9 conference record establishes the scale of the challenge. The Rangers won seven regular-season games overall, however, so the outlook should distinguish their broader results from the difficulty of the MAC schedule.

The closest league result was a 56–55 loss to Fort Recovery. Other outcomes were much wider, including 69–31 against Versailles and 62–25 against St. Henry. A useful preview needs both kinds of evidence: the team was capable of a narrow contest but did not sustain that competitiveness across the league.

The recognized contributions are specific

Parker Jones received second-team All-MAC honors and averaged 12.48 points across 21 games in the regular-season report. Connor Hoge earned honorable mention, with 68 steals and 119 rebounds listed in the same report.

Those statistics describe last season's contributions. Because the report does not establish their current class or participation status, neither player is being presented here as a confirmed returner. The school's new roster will determine how those responsibilities are distributed this winter.

Go beyond one conference

The next improvement must cover more than one action

New Knoxville's regular-season shooting figures were 38.36% from the field, 26.91% from three and 56.03% at the line. Together with the scoring average, they provide a factual reason to watch shot creation and finishing.

Pay attention to how the Rangers respond when their initial option is denied. A second useful action can keep a possession alive without forcing a difficult shot. On defense, the corresponding test is whether help and recovery end with a secured rebound.

The next team does not have to solve the entire MAC in its first week. It does need a repeatable way to compete for complete possessions, then carry that standard from the closer matchups into games against the league's strongest programs.
