MOAC 2026–27 Basketball Preview: A Champion's Transition and Ontario's Young Core
2026–27 Ohio boys basketball outlook • MOAC • Research checked October 21, 2026.
The verified starting point
2025–26 leaders: River Valley 13–1, Shelby 10–4, Ontario 9–5, Harding 8–6.
Pleasant finished 7–7; Clear Fork 4–10; Galion 3–11; Highland 2–12.
This outlook uses final 2025–26 standings and dated awards, not an official preseason poll.
The champion has a real personnel question
River Valley set the latest standard with a 13–1 conference finish and a district title. Its previous scoring leaders were Carter Myers and Chase Smith, while Eli Snyder supplied a league-reported 4.9 assists per game.
Smith and Snyder were listed as seniors on the archived roster. Myers' class information conflicts: the official All-Ohio release says senior, while the archived roster says junior. He is therefore excluded from confirmed-returner assumptions in this series. That uncertainty is too important to hide inside a confident predicted order.
Ontario provides the clearest younger-class storyline
Cardae Brown and Trindon Flenoury were both listed as sophomores in the official All-Ohio release. Their league regular-season scoring averages were 22.2 and 17.6 points, respectively. Ontario finished 9–5, one conference victory behind Shelby.
The current roster still controls participation, and those individual credentials did not prevent difficult previous results. Ontario lost a district semifinal to Shelby by two and a late league game to River Valley by 45. The next step is consistency against different problems, not simply another year added to two class labels.
Go beyond one conference

The rest of the league can change the race
Shelby must replace the role of senior scoring leader Brayden DeVito. Harding supplied River Valley's only league loss. Pleasant beat both Ontario and Harding, while Galion's tournament run reached a district final despite its lower league position.
Clear Fork won a double-overtime sectional game, and Highland had narrow losses to teams above it. These are reasons to cover the entire conference rather than limit attention to two headline programs.
Once play begins, compare the quality of possessions across common opponents. That will provide a stronger picture of the race than treating the previous table as a ready-made forecast.
