River Valley 2026–27 Basketball: The MOAC Champion Faces a Major Personnel Question
Updated: 15 hours ago
2026–27 Ohio boys basketball outlook • MOAC • Research checked October 21, 2026.
The verified starting point
2025–26: 20–6 overall, 13–1 MOAC.
Carter Myers averaged 24.6 points; Chase Smith averaged 19.0 in the league's regular-season report.
The Vikings beat Johnstown 54–48 for a district title.
The championship record gives the new season context
River Valley lost only once in the MOAC and won 20 games overall. The district-title win over Johnstown added a significant tournament achievement before a 75–68 regional loss to Dayton Northridge ended the run.
Those results establish the recent standard, but they do not settle this winter's roster. The most important preseason issue is how much of the previous team's scoring and organization the new group must replace.
A source conflict must not become a false returner claim
The league's coach-submitted regular-season report credits Carter Myers with 24.6 points, seven rebounds and 1.7 blocks per game. It lists Chase Smith at 19.0 points and Eli Snyder at 4.9 assists. That is a large share of the previous team's documented production.
The official 2026 All-Ohio release lists Myers as a senior, while the archived 2025–26 roster lists him as a junior. Because those records conflict, this article does not count Myers as a confirmed returner. Smith and Snyder are listed as seniors on the archived roster, and Smith is also a senior in the state release.

The next group must establish its own balance
The previous roster lists Riley Hummel, Isaac Betti, Tyler Monnette, Ellis McFarland and Owen Collins as juniors, with Liam Hamilton and Hunter Gantt as sophomores. McFarland received league honorable mention. Those are useful dated references, subject to current roster confirmation.
River Valley's lone league defeat was a 64–44 loss to Harding. The Vikings also produced large scoring nights, including 98–65 and 77–63 wins over Shelby. The new team's challenge is to create dependable offense without assuming the same distribution of work.
Watch who initiates possessions and who becomes the reliable second option. A championship program's next season is most interesting when those answers emerge in games, rather than being filled in by an October assumption.
