December 9, 2025 - Ohio High School Basketball Recap

In one of the most competitive defensive battles of the early season, Marysville and Delaware Hayes went toe-to-toe Tuesday night in a game that wasn’t decided until the final second. Unfortunately for the Monarchs, the final bounce didn’t go their way, as Hayes escaped with a narrow 41–39 win.
Marysville came into the matchup hungry to snap a rough patch dating back to the end of last season, but despite a much-improved showing, the Monarchs were unable to get over the hump. They were just two points away from ending their four-game skid, falling in heartbreaking fashion in a game that featured intensity, physicality, and defensive discipline from start to finish.
The loss also means Marysville wasn’t able to avenge their previous defeat to Hayes from December 2024 — a storyline that fueled much of Tuesday night’s energy on both ends.
Team Highlights
A Tough Start to the High School Basketball Season
The Monarchs now sit at 0–3, but the record doesn’t tell the whole story. In every game, they’ve shown flashes of high-level play, elite effort, and a commitment to competing until the very end. Tuesday night was no different: a low-scoring grind where Marysville matched the Pacers possession for possession, stop for stop, all the way through the fourth quarter.
Hayes, meanwhile, improved to 2–1, using clutch execution in the final minute to secure the win.
Looking Ahead
Marysville will return home Friday night as they welcome Olentangy for a 7:30 p.m. matchup. The Monarchs will need to be prepared — the Braves have scored 55+ points in every game this season and come in with one of the more explosive offenses in Central Ohio.
For Hayes, Friday marks their first taste of OCC league play as they take on Westerville North at 7:30 p.m.
Both teams look poised to grow as the season unfolds, and Marysville’s competitive edge — even in early losses — suggests they’re close to breaking through.
