Ohio NIL Laws & Rules
A starting point for Ohio athletes and families.
High school: OHSAA policy
The OHSAA NIL Resource Center describes member-school rules and reporting procedures. Current guidance permits qualifying NIL arrangements while retaining eligibility restrictions. Review the current bylaw, prohibited activities and reporting process before signing. OHSAA rules are athletic association policy, not Ohio statutes.
Reporting and eligibility
OHSAA currently instructs students and families to report an NIL agreement within 14 days. Its process includes a notarized affirmation completed by the student and a parent, plus a copy of the agreement, submitted through the official reporting process. Qualifying NIL activity does not permit pay to play. Review the full current bylaw and school requirements before making a commitment.
Ohio law
Ohio Revised Code Chapter 2741 addresses publicity rights and commercial uses of identity. Chapter 3376 concerns college-athlete NIL matters; do not assume college provisions define high school eligibility rules. Read the current law and seek advice for a particular agreement.
Before an agreement
Consult the school athletic director, parent or guardian where appropriate, and a qualified adviser. Keep agreements and disclosures. Confirm current reporting requirements and separate media permissions.
