The Marysville Monarchs opened their 2025–26 season on the road Monday night in a high-level Division I matchup against the Gahanna Lincoln Lions, falling just short in a tightly contested 60–55 non-conference battle. The game featured multiple college prospects on both teams, drawing attention from several college programs across all divisions.
This matchup also served as the opening week of competition for many OCC teams, bringing an early-season intensity and playoff-like environment to the court.
Game Overview
Both teams came out with energy and defensive pressure, showcasing the athleticism and physicality expected from two strong Division I programs. Marysville established early momentum behind its guard play and ball movement, while Gahanna Lincoln responded with balanced scoring and half-court execution.
The Lions’ disciplined approach on both ends allowed them to take a narrow lead into halftime. Marysville continued to battle throughout the second half, closing the gap multiple times, but Gahanna’s timely scoring and ability to control tempo proved to be the difference in the final minutes.
Despite the loss, Marysville showed composure, depth, and competitiveness—setting a strong foundation for the season ahead.
