Juan Marquez's Outstanding 2024 Bunsold Season: Eight Doubles and a .469 Average
Updated: 2 days ago
Juan Marquez gave Bunsold a difficult out at the top of the lineup in 2024. His eighth-grade season combined extra-base contact, patience, and aggressive baserunning into one of the strongest offensive records on the saved team sheet.
In 14 games, Marquez went 15-for-32 for a .469 average. His line included eight doubles, 10 RBI, 18 runs, 11 walks, and only three strikeouts. He finished with a .614 on-base percentage, .719 slugging percentage, and 1.332 OPS.

The doubles are especially noticeable. Eight of his 15 hits went for two bases, and he accounted for eight of the team's 11 doubles. He led the listed team in hits, doubles, runs, stolen bases, batting average, on-base percentage, slugging, and OPS. His 11 walks tied Evan Wortman for the team lead.
Once aboard, Marquez added another problem for opponents. He stole 16 bases without a recorded caught stealing. The sheet also records a .600 average with runners in scoring position, another sign of how productive his opportunities became in that season.
The coaching notes bring back a particular moment: with the score tied 8–8 and the bases loaded against Dublin Eversole, Marquez delivered a walk-off base hit. That account comes from the coach's postseason evaluation rather than a separately retrieved box score.
His coach described a composed player who stayed focused, responded to instruction, and could help in the outfield and at shortstop. Those observations fit the broader picture of a player who contributed in several ways.
This was a standout middle school season, and it deserves to be remembered on its own terms. It gives his baseball development a strong starting point without substituting old results for current high school statistics.
