Recruiting Reality Check: Follower Count Is Not a Scouting Report
Updated: 2 days ago
Opinion | Recruiting Reality Check.
A social following can introduce a player. It cannot tell you how that player handles a ball screen in the fourth quarter.
Our position is that online attention should start an evaluation rather than substitute for one. Full-game decisions, role, competition, development, and academic fit deserve consideration.
This is also why a player with a smaller audience should keep building useful film and communicating clearly. A quiet social account does not describe the limits of somebody’s game.
Media outlets, including ours, have a responsibility to explain what we have actually reviewed. A posted clip is a clip. A coach’s account is a source. A detailed film evaluation requires the film work.
Challenge the shortcut, respect the athlete. That is the standard.
Send Wolfe Sports accurate player details and game links. We want the conversation to move from who attracts attention to what the basketball shows.
