2026–27 Ohio boys basketball outlook • GWOC • Research checked October 21, 2026.

The verified starting point

2025–26: 16–9 overall, 9–5 GWOC.

League opponents averaged 48.9 points against Northmont.

The Thunderbolts beat Fairmont 63–52 in league play.

The table shows a team worth taking seriously

Northmont finished just behind Fairmont in the GWOC and won 16 games overall. The defensive number is particularly useful: 48.9 points allowed per conference game was lower than the figures posted by the league's top three finishers.

That does not establish how this winter's group will defend, but it identifies the program's most valuable recent benchmark. The challenge is to preserve enough of that resistance while producing the possessions needed to move up a crowded table.

Roster history identifies the transition

Northmont's published 2025–26 roster listed Bryson Thomas-Wiggins, Kaleb Kelly and Ja'kye Hoard as sophomores, with Carson Auxier a junior. Luke Mangen and Chisom Ibe were listed as seniors. Those class labels help distinguish possible continuity from positions that may need new answers.

They do not establish a starting five. A previous roster is evidence of experience and graduation status, not proof of current eligibility or a promised role. The most useful early observation will be which players actually carry the ballhandling and decision-making responsibilities in competitive games.

Small margins offer a practical measuring stick

Northmont lost its first league meeting with Centerville 40–39 and the second 57–51. It also beat Fairmont 63–52. Together, those results show why an outlook should include both opportunity and restraint: the Thunderbolts competed with leading teams without consistently finishing ahead of them.

Watch the possessions immediately after a stop. Can Northmont turn its defensive work into a clean shot instead of giving the ball back? In a close game, one additional productive trip and one completed rebound can matter more than a dramatic change of style.
