Non-Conference Showcase: Marysville Bunsold Defeats Springfield in a Battle of Ohio’s Best Youth basketball programs.

The much-anticipated non-conference dual between two of Ohio’s elite middle school basketball programs—Springfield Middle School, a powerhouse from Southwest Ohio, and Marysville Bunsold, the top team in Central Ohio—did not disappoint.

The 8th Grade Monarchs opened their 2024–25 season in dominant fashion, earning an impressive victory over a talented Springfield squad in front of an electric home crowd.

This matchup featured some of the state’s top young talent—and Marysville Bunsold once again proved why they’re considered one of the premier programs in the Midwest.

Leading the way was Kellen Carter, widely recognized as one of the top prospects in the Midwest. Carter put on a masterclass performance, dropping an incredible 45 points and setting the tone from the opening tip. His ability to score at all three levels, dominate the glass, and lead by example continues to make him a must-watch player for college scouts and prep programs across the region.

Supporting Carter were several of Ohio’s top-ranked players in their class—Myles Forrester, Hudson King, and AJ Shroyer—each making their presence felt throughout the game.

Hudson King had an excellent night, contributing 14 points and playing his signature brand of fast-paced, high-IQ basketball. Myles Forrester added 10 points, serving as a steady leader and floor general, while Sully Stackhouse also chipped in 10 points with his trademark toughness and rebounding.

AJ Shroyer brought the crowd to its feet with a highlight-reel moment—a slip-and-slide behind-the-back dribble move that left defenders stunned. He finished with 5 points and several key defensive plays.

David Lian added 7 points, continuing to show his scoring versatility, while Javy Lopez brought defensive intensity with 6 points and 5 steals, disrupting passing lanes all night. Mason Potts contributed 2 points and solid minutes off the bench, while Adam Najjar and Cole “Money” Schott made their mark with hustle plays, rebounds, and selfless teamwork that don’t always show up in the box score.

The Monarchs’ depth, energy, and chemistry were on full display as they controlled the tempo from start to finish, setting the tone for what promises to be another special season of Marysville basketball.

Next up, the Monarchs hit the road to face Olentangy Berkshire this Thursday evening, looking to keep the momentum rolling.

💙🏀 Monarch Nation—come out and support as the top team in Central Ohio continues its chase for another championship season!
