The Marysville Monarchs and Dublin Jerome Celtics delivered one of the most intense early-season matchups in Central Ohio on Friday night, battling through four quarters and two overtime periods before Jerome secured a 60–54 victory. The game showcased discipline, toughness, and high-level execution from both programs in a classic OCC showdown.

Game Overview

Marysville opened strong, attacking early with ball movement and defensive pressure. Senior guard Cole Brewer set the tone by pushing the tempo and creating scoring opportunities. Dublin Jerome adjusted with a methodical, half-court approach that allowed them to regain control and keep the game within reach.

The first half remained tight throughout, with neither team gaining more than a two-possession advantage. Marysville relied on its experienced senior group and promising underclassmen, while Jerome used patient offense and timely shooting to match the Monarchs stride for stride.

In the second half, defensive intensity increased on both sides. Marysville consistently answered Jerome’s scoring runs, while the Celtics continued to execute sets with composure.

Late in regulation, Brewer and freshman guard Kellen Carter hit key shots to push the game into overtime. The first overtime period remained balanced, but in the second, Jerome capitalized on turnovers, controlled late possessions, and converted free throws to seal the win.

Cole Brewer  (2026)

Brewer led Marysville with 16 points, 6 rebounds, and 6 assists. His two-way leadership, decision-making, and ability to control the pace kept Marysville competitive throughout the night. After missing most of last season due to injury, Brewer continues to remind Central Ohio why he is considered one of the area’s top guards.

Brennan Adkins  (2026)

Adkins contributed 10 points and 5 assists, providing steady playmaking, smart decision-making, and strong defensive minutes. His role as a reliable facilitator and scorer adds valuable balance to the offense.

Drew Chaffin  (2026)

Chaffin knocked down two critical three-pointers, each helping Marysville regain momentum in key stretches. His perimeter shooting remains an important asset in the Monarchs’ offensive system.

Owen Graves (2026)

Graves delivered another strong performance by doing all the little things that impact winning. He battled for loose balls, boxed out consistently, set physical screens, and defended multiple positions. His effort and toughness contributed significantly to Marysville’s competitiveness in a physically demanding game.

Top Freshman Kellen Carter and Myles Forrester (class of 2029)

Freshman guard Kellen Carter continued his impressive rise by scoring 14 points, finishing as the team’s second-leading scorer. His confidence and ability to make plays in pressure moments stood out once again.

Freshman Myles Forrester, earning his first varsity start, provided meaningful minutes with steady defense, good ball movement, and strong composure.

Key Factors in the Game

Dublin Jerome’s ability to slow the pace and force Marysville into half-court possessions proved to be a major difference late in the game. The Celtics executed efficiently in overtime and capitalized on second-chance opportunities and turnovers.

Despite the loss, Marysville demonstrated resilience, competitive spirit, and continued growth as both seniors and underclassmen produced key moments throughout the night.
