The Marysville Bunsold 8th Grade Baseball Team battled until the very last pitch in a thrilling matchup against Delaware Dempsey but came up just short, falling 8–7 in a game that went down to the wire.
With the bases loaded, two outs, and the Monarchs down by one, Evan Holshu ripped a hard line drive into the gap — only to be robbed by a great defensive play from the Dempsey left fielder to end the game. Holshu still made a huge impact, throwing out a runner from behind the plate earlier in the contest with a perfect strike.
Juan Marquez continued his strong season, leading the offense with two hits, a walk, and three runs scored. Drew Carper reached base twice and came through in the clutch with a hit and two RBIs in the sixth inning, while Evan Wortman added a key RBI and made several great plays in left field.
Everett Lomax stayed consistent with two hits, and Landon Ice showed his versatility with a solid performance both behind the plate and on the mound. Daniel Delbosque provided a lift in relief, tossing two scoreless innings, while Brennan Hoffer added a hit, a walk, and two runs to keep the Monarchs’ offense rolling.
Despite the tough loss, the team’s fight and togetherness were on full display — a testament to their growth and chemistry.
The Monarchs will look to bounce back in their home opener Tuesday night at 5:30 against Dublin Grizzell. Come out and show your support for this hardworking group!
