Marysville Bunsold Class of 2029 Opens Season with a Championship Preview vs. Olentangy Shanahan

The Marysville Bunsold 8th Grade Boys Basketball Team (Class of 2029) kicked off league play last Tuesday in what felt like an early championship preview against a tough and talented Olentangy Shanahan squad. The matchup carried extra motivation for the Monarchs, who fell to this same group in the summer league championship—but it was clear from the opening tip that this Marysville team came ready to compete.
After leading through three quarters, the Monarchs battled with heart, energy, and determination before ultimately coming up just short, falling 47–40 in a game that was every bit as competitive as advertised.
Dayton Storr led all scorers with 14 points, continuing to establish himself as one of the premier offensive players in Central Ohio. Henry Brown followed closely with 11 points, attacking the rim and hitting big shots when the Monarchs needed them most. Kale Strickland added 8 points, showing his versatility and leadership on both ends of the floor.
AJ Gratz chipped in 5 points, bringing his trademark toughness and rebounding, while Landon Will added 3 points, helping stretch the floor with timely shooting.
While the scoreboard didn’t tilt in their favor, the Monarchs’ effort was undeniable. The bench was electric all night, cheering on teammates and showing the togetherness that defines this special group. From start to finish, Marysville fought with championship-level intensity, proving they belong among the elite in Central Ohio middle school basketball.
The Monarchs will look to bounce back as they host Olentangy Liberty at home tonight (11/28/23). The 7th Grade tips off at 5:30 PM, followed by the 8th Grade at 6:30 PM.
