Elite 8 Matchup: Top Seed Marysville Bunsold (18-2) Delivers Dominant Defensive Performance in the Elite 8 of the D1 Gold Bracket Basketball Championship in Central Ohio

The Marysville 8th Grade Boys basketball team continued their impressive postseason run with a statement win in the Elite 8, defeating Hilliard Heritage 43-16. The Monarchs—now 19-2 on the season—put on a defensive clinic, showcasing teamwork, communication, and hustle from start to finish.

Leading the way was Kellen Carter, who poured in 18 points and grabbed 8 rebounds, setting the tone on both ends of the court. Myles Forrester orchestrated the offense beautifully, contributing 3 points and 6 assists, while Coach Hudson King made sure the energy and focus stayed sharp throughout the night.

Though AJ Shroyer cooled off from behind the arc, he made his presence felt all over the court—finishing with 2 points, 6 rebounds, 5 steals, and 2 blocks—doing all the little things that win basketball games. Sully Stackhouse had another standout performance, tallying 8 points and 8 rebounds while locking down a dangerous Heritage shooter, holding him to zero points from three-point range.

Javy Lopez continued his consistent and energetic play with 8 points, 5 rebounds, and 5 steals, providing a spark whenever the Monarchs needed it. Cole “Money” Schott lived up to his nickname by making clutch plays, scoring 2 points and dishing 3 assists. Adam Najjar also stepped up in big moments, contributing 2 points and 4 rebounds in key minutes off the bench.

Despite missing David Lian and Mason Potts due to illness, Marysville didn’t miss a beat—showing the kind of depth and heart that championship teams are made of.

With the win, the Monarchs advance to the Final Four where they’ll face Dublin Karrer at Hilliard Weaver on Thursday at 5:15 PM.

Meanwhile, the 7th Grade Marysville squad looks to keep the momentum going in their own Elite 8 matchup tonight at 5:15 PM at Dublin Grizzell.
