Chris Freeman’s first season as Marysville’s girls basketball head coach ended with a district championship on the program’s résumé. That is a strong opening chapter for a coach taking over a team under new leadership.
A successful first chapter for the staff
The November 2025 Journal-Tribune preview identified Freeman as the successor to Justin Price and pictured him with assistant coaches Morgan Ross and Hanna Schaefer. That staff deserves recognition alongside the players in the season retrospective.

By the district final, Freeman’s team was producing winning basketball on a major stage. The contemporary game report described an approach built around spreading the floor and sharing the ball against Gahanna’s size.
From an editorial perspective, that is encouraging because it gives the success a basketball explanation. The team found an approach suited to the matchup and finished the district tournament with a clear result.
The next season will bring its own demands, but Freeman and his staff already have a meaningful first-year achievement to build on. Marysville supporters can appreciate a coach whose opening season produced both a championship and reasons to look forward.
