Before Klarke Ransome built winning girls basketball teams, he had a college basketball story of his own. Wilmington College’s archived biography identifies the Richwood native as a North Union graduate and a four-season member of its men’s program.
A playing résumé with its own memorable moments
His junior-year biography records 27 appearances, 24 starts and a 7.3 scoring average. Earlier entries show fewer starts, giving the archive a useful picture of a player who developed into a larger role.

One particularly good moment came on December 16, 2013. Ransome scored 17 points—all in the second half—as Wilmington beat Baldwin-Wallace 87–74 on the road. The college’s game report credits him with 7-of-8 shooting and three makes in four attempts from beyond the arc during that second-half performance.
That game is worth remembering on its own terms. It shows a future coach producing a documented contribution in a competitive college setting, rather than simply having a playing credential listed beside his name.
Playing experience does not explain every part of a coaching career. It does, however, add another layer to Ransome’s basketball background and gives supporters a concrete achievement from the years before his coaching milestones.
